The other month I met up with G in London. Whenever we’re in London on a Sunday we head straight to Brick Lane to check out the food market and then make our way to Covent Garden for some shopping. We always seem to end up getting lost on the way to Brick Lane and this time we ended up walking for an hour before finally getting there. We’re really hungry from all the walking we had done and decided to pick some yummy food to try.
It’s easy to spend hours walking around, sampling bits of food and never coming to a decision of what to go for. After more walking we both went for a chicken tikka wrap which was filled with a delicious mix of veg, potatoes and chicken tikka. This wrap is so good that I’ve had it the last two times that I’ve been to the food stalls on Brick Lane.
On this occasion I decided to finally try a whoopie pie. Every time we’ve been to Brick Lane these colourful cakes have jumped and waved at me but I’m usually too full from lunch to get one. This time I grabbed one to take away and have with a cup of tea later. These pretty things come in all kinds of flavours. It took me a while to pick between the salted caramel, red velvet and the pistachio. Purely based on the colour I went for pistachio and I can assure you that it was a very good choice. A whoopie pie is really just a chubby little cake sandwiched together with a fluffy and creamy type filling. They taste really good and I’ll definitely be getting one next time I’m knocking about Brick Lane. Actually, I wouldn’t mind making these at home and might try Brown Eyed Baker’s recipe.
Do you have a favourite food stall on Brick Lane?
