I hope you’ve all had a good weekend. Today I have a slightly different post for you. The creative Sophie from Onetenzeroseven asked me to get involved with Blog Hop and share some stories about my blog. I thought it sounded like a fun and I hope you enjoy my answers to the questions. If you like a bit of fashion, business and lifestyle then make sure you check out Sophie’s blog.
Why do I write?
I’ve always documented my life through notebooks, Geocities, Livejournal, Myspace and now here on my blog. It’s nice to have your own space on the internet which you can design and create content for. There are no rules and that’s what I like best about it.
I use writing to accompany my photography. I like to document my life and share tips and information about the topics and skills I know best. I don’t claim to be a fancy wordsmith, nor do I wish to be. To me, words are tools. I can use them to explain a photograph, share my experience and communicate my feelings and ideas.
What am I working on?
At the moment I’m in the process of giving Prettygeentea a total refresh. I’m working on changing the design a little and I’ve created some simple guidelines for my content. I want to ensure that everything I post is useful to my readers – even if it’s photos from a day trip. I love looking back on my life through this blog but the posts that stand out are the ones which I’ve shared tips or recommendations and readers have commented with their thoughts. I think blogging brings people with similar interests together and I want to encourage that community feeling here on my blog.
I’m also working on launching Indiecana. I’ve mentioned it a few times but it’s basically my first e-commerce project. The aim is to find the best indie products from around the UK and share them on an easy to use website. I want to help customers find products they love and at the same time offer support to indie makers.
How does it differ from others of its genre?
My blog incorporates all of my interests. One day I’ll be talking about my new hat and the next I’ll be sharing my top tips for saving money. Other topics include travel, baking, business, reviews and much much more. I don’t want to pigeonhole my blog to one topic because I believe we all have more than one interest.
Prettgreentea has evolved over the years with me and my changing interests. It’s been there through university, many jobs and now at my latest chapter of life in Sheffield. It’s sure to change in the future but for now I want to share snapshots of my life and incorporate useful information within each post. I want my readers to be able to take something positive away from each post.
How does my writing process work?
I enjoy writing and planning blog posts when I’m on the train. I find it gives me time to think and put together content I’m going to be happy to share. I’m also lucky enough to work from home at the moment which allows me some alone time to focus on my blog. I work best in silence.
Many of my posts start with a photograph and then the words follow.
A few of my favourite ways to write blog posts:
– In my notebook – I find the words flow better by hand
– On Evernote – a very handy app which can link up with your computer, tablet and phone
– Within an email which I then send back to myself
If you don’t blog then tell me what you enjoy about reading blogs.
