A few months ago I was kindly sent a box of goodies from Delicious Alchemy. It was filled with a mix for bread, brownies, cookies and rice flakes. I’ll be sharing blog posts on each of these but today I’ll be focusing on Rice Flake Porridge.
Delicious Alchemy was founded in 2006 by Emma Killilea. After being diagnosed as coeliac she found it hard to discover natural, healthy and gluten free food. They’ve come far since then and now have a wide range of products now. You can read the full story on their website.
If you suffer from a gluten intolerance then you really need to check out the Delicious Alchemy shop. I don’t have an intolerance to gluten but if I eat a lot of wheat (and/or dairy) I get hives all over my hands. It’s something I discovered through keeping a food diary and I try my best to avoid eating too much of the foods that trigger it. I’ve wrote about it before but I’m still on a journey to pick out the exact culprits. For now, I’m doing my best to avoid too much wheat and dairy.
My favourite breakfast over the last couple of months has been a good ginger and lemon shot followed by rice flake porridge and a cup of rooibos tea. It’s such a warming breakfast so it’s ideal for the autumn and winter months. I find it much lighter and easy to eat in the morning than oats.
You make the porridge as you would with oats. I use half a cup of rice flakes, half a cup of almond milk and half a cup of water. Once they’re ready I then add fruit, usually berries, a little honey and if I’m feeling fancy, half a fig. It’s delicious.
Since I’ve been using the Rice Flake porridge there’s no going back to the usual stuff for me. I’ll be stocking up again at the end of this month and I’ll probably grab a pack of their fantastic brownie mix.
