I like to be mindful when it come to buying new clothes. I’ve worked hard to minimise my wardrobe this year so I only want to add pieces I really love to it. There’s no point in spending my hard earned money on 6 new items and then only wearing 2 of them. I prefer to do a little research and then buy a few quality items that I know I’ll wear throughout the season.
As much as I love pastels and whites I do still find myself reaching for a LBD during the autumn months. They’re just so versatile and by mixing up jewellery and handbags you can get away with wearing them on multiple occasions in the same month.
I’ve probably mentioned this before but I’m always on the look-out for dresses with a long or three quarter length sleeve. I think they make getting ready so simple and quick. If I buy short sleeved dresses I often ruin them with a cardigan. Hopefully I’ll get out of that habit one day.
The shops are quickly filling up with autumn clothes and I can’t wait to treat myself to a few new bits. I’ve been keeping an eye on all the new autumn collections and have been pleased to spot quite a few long sleeved dresses. I’ve collected 10 of my favourites together to share within this post. I hope it gives you some inspiration and ideas for any parties or events you have coming up over the next few months.
Velvet Swing Dress | Amei Dress | Sequin Dress | Fit and Flare Dress
This velvet swing dress from Boohoo reminds me of my university days. This was my go to style of dress and I can still see myself wearing it. It’s a cheap and cheerful dress which would be handy to have in the wardrobe for Halloween, festive events, or a gig with the girls. I like the idea of pairing this with a delicate choker and a quirky handbag.
The Amei dress is from AllSaints and more of a luxury purchase than the others. I particularly like the draped style of the dress as well as the longer back. I always find this cut to be flattering. This is the style of dress that would work well as a day to night dress with the addition of layered necklaces and statement heels.
A few years back I got a couple of dresses from Very which I adored. I now always check out their latest dresses to see if I can find anything similar. The two dresses I came across recently are both just under £50. The sequin dress is the perfect party dress. You san style it with simple accessories and shoes because the sequins have enough sparkle to carry the dress. The second dress from Very is an off the shoulder style which is very much on trend at the moment. Although I don’t normally buy intro trends I am totally sucked into off the shoulder styles. I think they always come back ’round and if I’m honest, I don’t see them going anywhere in the next year or so.
Heart Print Tea Dress | Sequin Lace Skater Dress | Floral Midi Dress | Black Kimono Dress
Here are 4 of my favourite finds. The first is from good old ASOS. It’s a black dress with a red and white heart print. I adore anything with a heart shaped theme. I like the girly ruffles at the bottom of this dress and the v neck. I’d personally be careful about my handbag choice with this dress. Although I love quirky and interesting handbags I think it would be best to stick to something simple otherwise it could make the outfit look childish.
Next up is this beauty from House of Fraser. It’s a skater dress which is my all-time favourite style. It also has a deep back v-shape which really adds something special to the dress. This is right at the top of my wishlish. House of Fraser always have a fab selection of dresses. I used to work there when I was at college and it’s still one of my go to places when I need something extra pretty.
The floral midi dress is by Free People, so there’s no surprise that I adore it. I like that I could chuck this on with a pair of Converse during the day and simply change up my shoes in the evening to something a little more party friendly (these Mary Janes are so cute).
The cut of the kimono dress by Line & Dot is beautiful. I love the layers and the deep v-neck. The only downside to this dress is that it’s 100% viscose. If you’re wearing this in cold weather then it would be fine but if you find yourself somewhere warm then it wouldn’t be too comfortable. I don’t know about you, but I always get so hot in viscose clothes. Like the model in the photo I think that this dress will look its best with a sexy shoe. These beauties from Dune would work really well.
Evie Sparkle Maxi Dress | Midnight Garden Dress
The final 2 dresses I want to share with you today are by French Connection. Every year they do wonderful embellished dresses which would be perfect for a very special occasion. They both have more of a high-end price tag compared to the other dresses in this post. I thought they were worth sharing incase any of you are looking for a statement black party dress. I’ve been a pretty big fan of French connection for years and have found everything to be really goof quality. I still have shoes and skirts from 7 years ago. The Midnight Garden dress is pretty high up on my wishlist.
Which dress would you pick for your first party of the season?
