My sister treated me to some new and very good make-up for Christmas. She picked out a Marc Jacobs mascara and highliner crayon and a replacement of a long-term favourite, Charlotte Tilbury lip-liner. All 3 of these products are a pleasure to use and I’ll be sharing a full review of them in my monthly favourites. With these new additions to my make-up collection I’ve decided to have a clear out (again). I’ve got rid of any make-up I no longer use and anything that’s simply too old to keep. I’ve never had a big make-up collection but there were a few nail varnishes and lipsticks that had been well loved and it was time for them to go.
I want to keep things as minimal as possible when it comes to my make-up this year (in terms of quantity and storage). I still enjoy trying out new products and different brands but I want to ensure I’m more mindful about what I’m using and making sure I’ve used things up before treating myself to something new. I’ve been doing a little research on blogs and browsing the House of Fraser website to get some new make-up inspiration.
One of the things I’m keen to replace is my foundation. I’ve been using the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation which is fab for when I’m in-front of the camera but but I find it way too heavy to wear on a daily basis. I think I’m going to go back to the Bare Minerals Bare Skin foundation but I need to get matched up again. Actually, if any of you know any brands which have good foundations for olive-toned skin then I’d love to know.
Along with a new foundation I’d like a new highlighter and a contouring palette. I’m determined to experiment with my make-up a little more this year and finally spend some time on perfecting contouring and a winged eye-liner. I don’t need any new eye-liners at the moment, I just need to make use of the ones I’ve got. The reason I think I’ll go for a palette when it comes to contouring is that it makes it all much simpler. I can get the products I need in a neat little tray and spend some time learning to use them. Something like this NARS Contour Blush Olympia would be ideal. I travel a lot and like to have things read to pop in my make-up bag and go.
There are lots of beautiful highlighters on offer like this beauty by Bobbi Brown and the handy bareMinerals Invisible Light Duo. Let me know if you’ve tried a highlighter you particularly like. I’d also like to get a couple of new lipsticks which I can use on a daily basis. I love bright reds and soft nudes depending on the look I’m going for. I tend to stay away from peach and orange shades because unfortunately, they don’t suit me. I’d really like to try some of the Urban Decay lipsticks, I haven’t used anything from the brand for years but I’ve heard very good things.
I plan on going out with my sister next weekend to treat myself to a new few bits. I’ll report back with what I get.
