I hope you’re all having a good week.
I’m here to share a collaborative post with you. It’s filled with lots of handy tips for keeping your hair healthy throughout the year. I’ve got into a bad habit of washing my hair daily which can make it dry and strip out the natural oils. From today I’m going to try and wash my hair every 3/4 days. I hope you learn something new from today’s post.
With our constant use of hair dryers, straighteners and curling irons, sadly our hair can get damaged relatively quickly. It is burnt, and over time this could lead it to snap and all the natural protein is lost.
Our hair can also become dehydrated and lose its lustre and shine, resulting in frizz and split ends. Thankfully, bringing it back to good health is possible. Here we have put together eight care tips on how you can restore and protect your damaged locks.
Spot the early signs of damage
Does your hair feel dry and look dull? Is it frizzy and do you have split ends? These are all indications that your hair may be damaged. The good news is you have detected it early and can begin the healing process quickly.
Get rid of the heat
Whether it’s your curlers or straighteners, heat is enemy number one for damaged hair. If used frequently or incorrectly, the irons can burn your hair leaving it damaged forever. To prevent this, you need to know the mistakes made when straightening or curling and how to look after your hair in preparation for heat.
Never use a curling or straightening iron on wet hair, maintain a medium temperature and remember to always put on heat protection spray beforehand. Try not straighten your hair every day, give it a couple of days’ break, wear it up and let it have some time off from heated products.
Don’t wash your hair every day
Avoid getting into a daily routine of washing your hair, as this will dry it out due to chemicals such as sodium and sulphate in your shampoo and conditioning products. You should be using specialist hair care for damaged hair as this will help to restore and regenerate it.
Don’t dye your hair
If your hair is damaged, avoid dying it. The chemicals in hair dye will only make any damage already there worse and leave it in a brittle condition. Let the dye grow out and return to your natural colour, as you work to get your hair back to its original condition.
Book in at the hairdressers
Head down to the hairdressers for a pamper and a cut. When repairing damaged hair, it’s recommended you have at least three inches cut off. This is because when the tips of your hair have been mistreated the damage could spread to each strand of your hair. If you hate the idea of having to cut so much off then consider purchasing some hair extensions? This way it won’t seem as if you have lost any length and can enjoy wearing your hair down without needing to use heat to style it.
Replenish your hair’s keratin
When your hair is damaged it loses Keratin, which is what makes your hair shiny, healthy and gives it a bit of bounce. You can replace this by using conditioners that are formulated and hair repair treatments. Just look for Keratin on the label.
Protect hair from direct sunlight
The sun can be just as harmful as heat products, as the UV rays penetrate into the hair and burn cuticles. Avoid this by wearing a hat during the summer and protecting your hair and scalp.
Strive for good overall health
Maintaining good overall health can help damaged hair too. Your hair will look and feel healthy along with the rest of you. Your hair is affected by what you eat and drink so drink lots of water, take vitamins and essential nutrients. A diet of rich meats, vegetables, fruit and the low fat dairy will help keep your hair in a happy condition. It’s also affected greatly by stress, with too much leading to hair loss and lack lustre locks. Take a close look at you overall mental and bodily health when tackling hair repair.
