This summer I’ve been all about the shirred dress. I say summer but we all know what a strange one it’s been. We had a very long winter and I honestly feel like we only had a couple of weeks of sunshine. It does look like we’re set for some sunshine this week (YAY) and despite looking forward to autumn I’ll be welcoming the last of the warm weather with welcome arms.
So, I’ve made it pretty clear that shirred dresses are my thing right now.
Let’s get more specific, maxi shirred dresses with sleeves and extra points if it has super puffy princess sleeves.
The one I’m wearing in the photo above is from Tu at Tesco. I got it a couple of months ago but have seen it in there again recently and they also have many more long shirred dresses with three-quarter length sleeves.
I shop from a wide range of places with varying price points. I like to find styles that suit me and that I hope will continue to suit me over the years and then look for dresses I like within those boundaries. I think at the moment, New Look and Tesco have some beautiful and affordable dresses which are pretty good quality. I didn’t like the quality from boohoo at all so I won’t be ordering from there again. Then there are more expensive brands like Whistles, Sleeper and NA-KD which are all wildly different in price but offer stunning dresses and of good quality. I often keep an eye out in the sales but if it’s something I know I’ll wear a lot over the years then I’ll go for it.
6 Shirred Dresses For The Last Few Weeks Of Summer
What’s better than a shirred dress with cute puffy sleeves? Make it gingham of course! This shirred gingham dress is now £14.99 down from £27.99 at New Look. I love the pink but currently only have it in red and black.
A black dress is always going to be a classic. This one is from the Curve range at ASOS (£35 at the moment) and New Look also have a lovely black shirred dress too – currently £20 in the sale.
Here’s another beauty from New Look. This black floral shirred dress is already sitting in my basket along with the pink gingham one above.
NA-KD is a totally new brand to me, I’m probably a little out of the loop with it but they have some gorgeous shirred dresses which I’ll be having a proper browse through tonight. This pretty maxi floral dress stood out to me because of the frill detail around the neck.
I love Sleeper dresses although I do think they’re expensive for what they are (this lavender dress is currently £232.54). Saying that, they’re perfect for very hot summers and holidays because they’re 100% linen. Keep an eye on this brand around the end of summer and middle of winter because they do some really good sales. This lavender dress ticks all the boxes for me, I love a princes sleeve.
Aspiga is another new (to me) brand. They have some beautiful dresses and I’m keen to find out more about them especially as their mission is focused towards sustainable and ethical fashion.
I really like the finish of this dress and I think it would be ideal for the transitional season of September and well into autumn. This is the Nancy dress which is currently £125.
