Today I’m sharing some fun and exciting Christmas activities for under 5’s in and around Cambridge. I realised last year that if you want in on many of the festive activities in the run-up to Christmas then you have to book early. This year I’ve realised that for some things you need to book really early…September early. I guess I know for next year now.
Anyway, here are 5 festive activities for under 5’s that caught my eye:
Mrs Claus Storytelling at the Grand Arcade
Something that’s free, for once.
So, every weekend throughout December you’ll find Mrs Claus telling Christmas tales and singing songs in the Grand Arcade.
Perfect for ages 2 to 10 years old.
Location: First Floor, next to Seanhanna Hair Salon.
Santa Express at Audley End Miniature Railway
All aboard to the enchanted woods of Audley End to visit Father Christmas winter workshop. Snowberry the forest fairy will guide you through the illuminated woodland walk where you’ll stop to make reindeer feed, write a Christmas wishlist to Santa and much more. I’ve heard this is such a magical experience and it looks truly wonderful.
We’ve never been and I was hoping to change that this year but it looks like we’ve missed out on tickets. However, there are still tickets available for those of you who don’t have littles in school.
Kawaii Kubs Christmas Party – 17th December
Kawaii Kubs offer sensory and messy play sessions based in Histon and Girton. There are lots of beautifully created messy play trays, crafts, music, bubbles and much more. When it comes to Christmas these guys know how to party and it looks like there may be some special guests too.
So, get 17th December in your diary for the Kawaii Kubs Elf Workshop. Little ones can dive into the messy and sensory play, get their hands on tools straight from the elf workshop, make some magical reindeer food, decorate a glitter Christmas tree and make Christmas handprint pictures. Oh and don’t forget about the giant snowball fight.
We went to their Christmas party last year and X loved it. I’m pretty sure the Father Christmas we met was the real deal too. Both of my boys will be looking forward to a festive messy play party this year.
Sunday 17th December
Location: ROYAL BRITISH LEGION, HISTON
Winter Lights at Anglesey Abbey
From the 17th November to Sunday 10th December you will be able to experience Anglesey Abbey after dark with a magical light display. This is their ‘Nature by Night, Nature by Light’ event and it’s a beautiful, sensory after-dark journey that brings the gardens to life. I have several friends who go every year to the National Trust light displays and luckily we’re going this year too.
So along with the light there will be live music from Cambridge Jazz Festival in the Courtyard and Cambridge Folk Festival in the Orchard every night. There will also be mesmerising metalwork sculptures created by renowned artist Jeni Cairns. Oh and we can’t forget about snacks, hot chocolate and mulled wine! There’s something for everyone with catering from – Caffe Mobile, Pull me Cheri, Vegeteria and Waffle & Co.
Be sure to also check out the Winter Lights at Wimpole.
Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet – The Nutcracker at Cambridge Corn Exchange
This sounds like the perfect Christmas treat. A festive ballet performed by dancers straight from the snowy, historic homeland of classical ballet, Russia and accompanied by a full orchestra.
This is something I’d love to have gone to but we’re away over the Christmas holidays.
